Our Lifetime Warranty

Published in full, in plain English, so you can read it before you buy — not after.

🛡 Lifetime coverage✅ NSF Certified components🛠 Free installation

We put our warranty in writing and publish it publicly, because a warranty you can't read before you buy isn't worth much. Here's what's covered, what isn't, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Lifetime warranty coverage

Honest Water Co of Austin provides a lifetime warranty on the major components of our whole-home water treatment systems, for as long as the original purchaser owns the home in which the system was installed.

What "lifetime" means here

For as long as you own the home and the system remains installed and in normal residential use, we repair or replace covered components that fail due to a defect in materials or manufacturing — at no charge for the part.

Media, filters, and expected service life

Some parts of any water system are consumable by design. We'd rather be upfront about that than let “lifetime” imply nothing ever needs attention.

  • Whole-home systems are built for a service life of roughly 8–10 years. When media reaches end of life, we typically replace the complete system at a discounted rate rather than swapping media — in most cases that costs less and performs better.
  • Reverse osmosis drinking systems need filter replacement every 12–18 months. Filters are consumables and are not covered as warranty items.
  • Softening resin is covered against manufacturing defect, but not against fouling caused by untreated iron, sulfur, or sediment on a supply the system wasn't specified to handle.

What the warranty does not cover

  • Damage from freezing, fire, flood, lightning, power surges, or other acts of nature
  • Damage from water chemistry outside the range the system was specified for — for example, untreated well water with iron or sulfur on a system sized for city water
  • Damage caused by modification, relocation, or repair performed by anyone other than Honest Water Co of Austin or an installer we authorize
  • Damage from operating the system outside normal residential parameters, including pressure or temperature beyond its rating
  • Consumable items: RO filters and membranes, sediment cartridges, salt, and UV lamps
  • Neglect — including allowing a brine tank to run empty of salt for extended periods, where that causes hard water damage
  • Cosmetic wear that doesn't affect function
  • Commercial or multi-family installations, unless covered by a separate written commercial agreement

Keeping your warranty valid

  1. Have the system installed by us or by an installer we authorize in writing.
  2. Keep salt in the brine tank on salt-based systems. Running dry doesn't just stop softening — it lets hardness through to everything downstream.
  3. Replace RO filters on schedule — every 12–18 months.
  4. Don't modify or relocate the system without talking to us first. We're happy to help if you're remodeling.
  5. Tell us if your water source changes — switching from city to well, or a utility changing its supply, can change what your system needs to handle.

If you sell your home

The lifetime warranty applies to the original purchaser at the installation address. If you're selling, contact us — in many cases we can arrange coverage for the new homeowner. Please reach out before closing so we can document it properly.

It helps if you have your installation date and address handy, along with a description of what the system is doing — and a photo if there's something visible. We'll troubleshoot over the phone where we can, and schedule a visit where we can't.

The equipment behind the warranty

We're able to warranty our systems this way because of what goes into them:

  • NSF Certified components
  • USA-made high-capacity softening resin
  • Granular activated coconut shell carbon for chlorine and taste
  • NSF Certified polishing gravel
  • The Honest Provalve control valve
  • Free professional installation across most of our service area
Legal note

This page summarizes our standard residential warranty in plain language. The written warranty document provided with your installation governs in the event of any conflict, and terms may vary for commercial installations or systems installed by third parties. This warranty gives you specific legal rights; you may also have other rights which vary by jurisdiction. Nothing here limits any rights you have under applicable law.

Find out what's actually in your water

We'll test your water at your address — free, no obligation — and show you exactly what you're dealing with before anyone talks about equipment.
